Our Indian society is gradually rolling towards valuing and respecting the transgender community. Last year the world saw the emergence of the first transgender modelling agency. Now the list will soon be going to adapt in Delhi, the national capital of India.
We finally began to accept transgenders as a part of our society. You can now see them taking the lead in professions like teaching, politics, offices and so on. But the sector of beauty seems noticeably vacant for transgenders. Considering this, Mitr, a charitable trust is soon going to start a transgender modelling agency in India.
• With the aim of serving a dual purpose – it will boost the morale of transgenders and rejoice their beauty.
• As they get the funding, they can keep the charity running and helping out those young transgender who face sexual, physical or emotional abuse.
The trust is headed by model Rudrani Chettri and now teaming up with Rishi Raj, fashion stylist to make the agency dream come true.
“I travel a lot. And I love to dress up and click pictures of myself. Every time I used to share a picture of myself all dressed up, people from my own community (transgenders) would ask me if I wanted to become a model. Some of them couldn’t even fathom putting up such pictures. That’s when the idea of doing something with transgender models struck me,” says Chettri.
The agency aims is to spot 5 top models and help them launching in fashion media and would bring a noticeable change. For the LGBT community, it would be a flash- a possibility where the young transgender will not have limited work options.
Let us appreciate this initiative and hope that it will change things for them to a great extent!
